In September 2011 Terri and I
visited friends in Moscow. Our hotel was near Red Square, and we
headed there right off the plane.
Entering through
Voskresensky (Resurrection) Gate.
Impressive sight as you go
through the gate. Hard to imagine tanks rolling through here.
It was nice to go back - I had
not been there since 2006.
And Terri had never been. A
great view on a nice night.
The State Historical
Museum lay behind us as we headed south.
GUM shopping mall is on the
east side (you can get some great bargains in there).
The west side is bounded
by the Kremlin wall. The gold dome is over the Senate
building, and Lenin's Mausoleum is in the foreground.
Saint Basil's Cathedral is on
the south end.
Beautiful mid-1500's
architecture. Kinda Russian.
We ate at a restaurant near
Kazan Cathedral.
The next morning we headed
back in to tour St. Basil's. Behind me is the Hotel
National, where we stayed, and a monument to Marshal Zhukov,
who defended Moscow from the Germans in 1941.
The State Historical Museum
looked nice in the daylight as well.
