Summit Assault Day. With batteries running low, we vowed to refrain from taking pictures until we reached the summit. But when this guy appeared at the top of the headwall in silhouette, I couldn't resist. Click on the picture to enlarge.

Several hours later, WE MADE IT !!! The view was awe-inspiring. The mountains were pretty, too. Click on the picture to enlarge.

From the summit, you have a great view of Mount Eolus and Twin Lakes Basin at its base. Click on the picture to enlarge.

Soon another couple showed up, so we traded summit photo's with them. This was the couple we met back at the trailhead.

I watch, a bit nervously, as they do a summit block photo (a few of the blocks actually move).

The view to the east, towards Pagosa Springs.

Love at 14,082'. Twenty-five years later, a great anniversary present. Click on the picture to enlarge.

The view to the north, towards Telluride. The peak behind us is Sunlight, another 14'er.  Click on the picture to enlarge.

One of the snowfields we had to cross on the way back down. You want to tread carefully.....

Now that we had our summit photo's, we took a few more on the way back down. Click on the picture to enlarge.

Heading back down Windom's west ridge. Click on the picture to enlarge.

Windom is a "Class 2+" peak, which means you have to use your hands and really climb, but nothing too difficult. The handholds are typically very solid, so the climbing is fun. I love Windom.

We took this to show what it looks like at a feature I call The Notch, the only place that makes my stomach tighten up on the way up. I have taken this shot twice now and cannot seem to capture the feeling. Gotta be there, I guess.

We pause for some yummy Power Bars. At this point we are out of water and looking forward to Twin Lakes.

Back at Twin Lakes.  Ah, water.

We are greeted again. If only we could bounce back and forth between the Lakes and camp so easily. Click on the picture to enlarge.

If Twin Lakes Basin is not the prettiest place on the planet, it has to be close. Click on the picture to enlarge.
